Hi there!
I’m Loewyn and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer in Olympia Washington. Okay technically I moved to McCleary two years ago but do you know where that is? No, no one does but it’s close enough to Olympia that I can still shop at Trader Joe’s so it counts. I feel extremely fortunate to live in a cute house with my husband Hans, our three cats Archie, Sona and Lenore and my way too many house plants. I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest since I was a teenager which is also when I picked up a camera for the first time. Every job I’ve ever had has been related to photography in some way, from working at a one hour photo in high school to managing a fine art photography studio to documenting legislators at the Washington State Capitol. And of course for the past 8 years I have had the honor of capturing the love and joy between so many couples and families. I hope I can do the same for you some day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you vaccinated against Covid-19?
Vaxxed and relaxed babyyyyy! I’m a big wimp when it comes to getting sick so I got the vaccine (moderna, thanks Dolly!) as soon as I could and I’ve had several boosters since. I’m one of the few people I know who hasn’t gotten covid yet though I’m sure my days are numbered.
What happens if you get sick with Covid the day before our wedding?
If anything comes up that would prevent me from covering your wedding I am in touch with a vast network of talented photographers that I can hire from to take my place. It would be my responsibility to choose someone who’s style is similar to mine and cover this expense. Then I would edit their photos and deliver them to you as if I had taken them myself. It’s not ideal and so far I’ve never had to do this but things happen and it’s better than having no one to take pictures at all.
How many images do you deliver and when will we receive them?
It’s impossible to give an exact number but my keep rate is approximately 75-100 images per hour. So six hours of wedding photography typically results in a gallery of 450-550 images. Every image you receive will be edited for color, exposure and contrast in a style similar to what you see on my website. I also do basic retouching in Photoshop. I don’t use Artificial Intelligence so every photo gets my personal touch. Your images will be available to download from an online gallery about 8-10 weeks after your wedding day.
What is a first look and why should I do one?
A first look happens between the bride and groom after you’re both ceremony ready but before the actual ceremony. It’s a private moment between the two of you to see each other without the crowd of family and friends oh and also I’m there too. Getting to see your partner and share this time together helps relieve so much of the anxiety you might be feeling before walking down the aisle. And after the first look is a great time to get bridal party or family photos out of the way so you can spend cocktail hour with your guests instead of getting photos done. I highly recommend doing this!
How much time should we set aside for family photos?
Each group takes approximately 3 minutes to get together and pose so long as none of your family members have wandered off to the bar early. So it really depends on how big your family is and how many you want to include. A month before your wedding day I will send you a questionnaire that among other things will ask exactly who you want in photos. It helps so much for me to have a list to work from so I don’t miss anybody.
What’s it like to work with you?
I’m a very introverted person so I don’t make a lot of small talk. My style is very informed by photojournalism and fine art so I tend to take the fly-on-the-wall approach. My favorite compliment is when people tell me they didn’t even realize I was there. Having said that I’m not exactly shy and I have no problem herding your family for group photos or giving you and your partner direction so you look your best for portraits.
How do we book you for our wedding?
Woah there, we just met, let’s get to know each other first! I am so pleased you’re interested in working with me and I would love to chat about your wedding plans. In person meetings are preferable but I know how busy we all are these days so we can talk over Zoom or a phone call as well. If it seems like we’re a good fit and you want to book with me I will send you my contract and an invoice for the deposit. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is paid your date is reserved and we are all set!
