Hi there!

loewyn

I’m Loewyn and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer in Olympia Washington. Okay technically I moved to McCleary two years ago but do you know where that is? No, no one does but it’s close enough to Olympia that I can still shop at Trader Joe’s so it counts! I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest since I was a teenager which is also when I picked up a camera for the first time. Every job I’ve ever had has been related to photography in some way, from working at a one hour photo in high school to managing a fine art photography studio to documenting legislators at the Washington State Capitol. And of course for the past 8 years I have had the honor of capturing the love and joy between so many couples and families. I would be thrilled do the same for you some day!

About my Business Practices

I hope it’s obvious that inclusion is a part of my business that is very important to me. Whether you are a person of size, a person of color, homosexual, transgendered, young or old, no one deserves to feel othered EVER, especially not on your wedding day. Another aspect of the wedding industry that should be important to us all is sustainability. A wedding can generate so much waste if sustainable choices aren’t taken into consideration. And I get it, weddings are stressful enough without adding more to think about. That’s why I’m offering a $200 discount on any wedding package if you can commit to avoiding single use plastics during your celebration. That means no plastic plates, cups, cutlery or favors. These types of items wreck havoc on the environment when they’re made and when they’re thrown away. Also, renting nice reusable dishes is surprisingly affordable and will make your day look super classy and beautiful!

If you and your partner are interested in planning the most environmentally friendly wedding ever please check out Emerald Hour for tips on how to plan sustainability into your wedding. They also have an awesome directory of other vendors who care about the Earth as much as they care about making your day special, stunning and fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you vaccinated against Covid-19?

Vaxxed and relaxed babyyyyy! I’m a big wimp when it comes to getting sick so I got the vaccine (moderna, thanks Dolly!) as soon as I could and I’ve had several boosters since. I’m one of the few people I know who hasn’t gotten Covid yet though I’m sure my days are numbered. Update: I got Covid in September 2024, cue sad trombone.

What happens if you get sick with Covid the day before our wedding?

If anything comes up that would prevent me from covering your wedding I am in touch with a vast network of talented photographers that I can hire from to take my place. It would be my responsibility to choose someone who’s style is similar to mine and cover this expense. Then I would edit their photos and deliver them to you as if I had taken them myself. It’s not ideal and so far I’ve never had to do this but things happen and it’s better than having no one to take pictures at all.

How many images do you deliver and when will we receive them?

It’s impossible to give an exact number but my keep rate is approximately 75-100 images per hour. So six hours of wedding photography typically results in a gallery of 450-550 images. Every image you receive will be edited for color, exposure and contrast in a style similar to what you see on my website. I also do basic retouching in Photoshop. I don’t use Artificial Intelligence so every photo gets my personal touch. Your images will be available to download from an online gallery about 8-10 weeks after your wedding day.

What is a first look and why should I do one?

A first look happens between the bride and groom after you’re both ceremony ready but before the actual ceremony. It’s a private moment between the two of you to see each other without the crowd of family and friends oh and also I’m there too. Getting to see your partner and share this time together helps relieve so much of the anxiety you might be feeling before walking down the aisle. And after the first look is a great time to get bridal party or family photos out of the way so you can spend cocktail hour with your guests instead of getting photos done. I highly recommend doing this!

How much time should we set aside for family photos?

Each group takes approximately 3 minutes to get together and pose so long as none of your family members have wandered off to the bar early. So it really depends on how big your family is and how many you want to include. A month before your wedding day I will send you a questionnaire that among other things will ask exactly who you want in photos. It helps so much for me to have a list to work from so I don’t miss anybody.

What’s it like to work with you?

I’m a very introverted person so I don’t make a lot of small talk. My style is very informed by photojournalism and fine art so I tend to take the fly-on-the-wall approach. My favorite compliment is when people tell me they didn’t even realize I was there. Having said that I’m not exactly shy and I have no problem herding your family for group photos or giving you and your partner direction so you look your best for portraits.

How do we book you for our wedding?

Woah there, we just met, let’s get to know each other first! I am so pleased you’re interested in working with me and I would love to chat about your wedding plans. In person meetings are preferable but I know how busy we all are these days so we can talk over Zoom or a phone call as well. If it seems like we’re a good fit and you want to book with me I will send you my contract and an invoice for a 50% deposit. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is paid your date is reserved and we are all set!

Words of Praise

Loewyn did a fantastic job photographing our wedding!!! She captured all the right moments and provided a calm and reassuring presence in a potentially stressful time. We’re still going through her photos weeks later.

If everything goes to plan I wont be needing her services again, but will be recommending her to anyone getting married in the area!

Wow!! That’s all I can say... is just wow! My husband and I were so impressed with Loewyn’s work. She captured every laugh, every happy tear, and the love of our wedding day. Pure talent! Her professionalism throughout the day made us feel comfortable and confident we chose the right photographer. (Especially in the middle of a pandemic). I would recommend her every time!

Loewyn was just amazing. We had a family emergency before the ceremony and it completely wrecked the timeline for pictures, but Loewyn just went with the flow and captured some wonderful moments before the wedding that I never would have seen otherwise. The photos she took of myself and my husband were amazing, but even more importantly she got a ton of candids of our guests having fun, which has made it so easy to relive the wedding. She really captured so well what the day felt like and my husband and I couldn’t be more happy with our pictures. And on top of all of this she stayed up late getting us some sneak peek pictures to us so that we could share them with a family member who unexpectedly had to miss the wedding. It meant the world to me that she did that, and without even asking. I wholeheartedly recommend her.

We had an amazing experience with Loewyn. She really listens when you tell her what you are looking for. Even though we wanted some traditional family portraits of our wedding, she knew that we preferred photos that weren’t posed. I was STUNNED at the beauty and the emotions in the candid photos that she took. She freezes the authentic moments in time for you, and when I look at our candid photos I immediately smile or laugh. During the event, I expected to feel aware of photos being taken the entire time, but Loewyn makes you feel so comfortable and relaxed that I honestly didn’t even know she was there and I mean that in the very best way possible. Loewyn is a gifted artist, and a truly talented photographer. I am very grateful for the beautiful work she did for our wedding. Thank you Loewyn!

Loewyn shot our wedding in April and did such an incredible job! With a gathering as small as ours (30 people!) having an unobtrusive photographer is even more important. From the first time she and I connected by phone I knew she was the person we wanted there to capture the day. She was great about being flexible as the day approached. She is both sensitive and skillful. She captured moods, moments, big vistas, and intimate glances. We could not be happier with how the photos came out!

We hired Loewyn for our backyard wedding after we fell in love with her profound ability to capture feelings. Many people can take pretty pictures, but Loewyn has a wonderful gift for photographing moments and relationships while remaining unobtrusive. Our guests were enjoying themselves and hardly noticed the camera nearby, so our request for candid shots was easy to fulfill. Neither my husband nor I particularly love being photographed, but Loewyn’s calm demeanor on this high-excitement day put us at ease. While she gave suggestions for poses and made great use of the light, she still let us be ourselves. We couldn’t be happier with the photos we received of our happy day! We will absolutely recommend Loewyn to our friends!
